Guru Status:
SharePoint Solutions Architect specializing in the design, development and deployment of innovative features using Microsoft SharePoint. I have a specific interest in extending the social computing capabilities of the SharePoint platform. With nearly ten years experience designing and developing SharePoint solutions, I began my SharePoint work at Microsoft in 2000 as a Web development engineer.
My portfolio includes work for Microsoft, eBay, and Xerox. I recently participated in the invitation-only Office 14 Developer Kitchen at Microsoft, working on building social computing experiences for the current and next version of SharePoint . In 2008, I participated in Microsoft’s Strategic Architect Forum in San Francisco.
I am an active blogger (http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/blogs/getthepoint/default.aspx and http://rstagg.com ) in the SharePoint community and, in addition to SharePoint, have a passion for Silverlight and Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) technologies.

Guru Path:
Worked at Microsoft full-time as a web development engineer and software design engineer from 1999 to 2005. Also worked as a UI developer in the Natural Language Group for several windows applications in C#. Developed Sharepoint intranets for several groups at Microsoft including the Business Applications Group, Natural Language Group and Speech team. Developed several custom ASP.NET/C# applications including a content management system and a global content repositiory including custom web services and a taxonomy-based navigation for the MS Sales/Marketing field worldwide.Left Microsoft in 2005 to get some exposure to companies outside Microsoft and try my hand at consulting. Landed a position with Write Image as a Sharepoint developer consultant developing sites primarily for Microsoft but also a Sharepoint implementation for eBay. A great opportunity came by my way to work on a Sharepoint version of Microsoft’s Business Contact Manager CRM in early MOSS 2007-learned Sharepoint from the inside out-schema.xml, custom web-controls bound to sharepoint controls, localization using the new ASP.NET resource keys, customizing viewstyles.xml, packaging and deployment of custom code as site features.Allyis recruited me in 2006 to do a large site migration for the Microsoft Legal and Corporate Affairs portal-and developed multiple SharePoint implementations and custom applications including a content rating system, auto-tagging, and newsletter generation site templates for use by our Microsoft and non-microsoft customers. Lead a team at the Office 14 Developer Kitchen where we presented a working microblogging solution for SharePoint.
In 2009 started a new SharePoint practice at LANtek Computer Services in PA! Yes, moved from Seattle, WA to Pennsylvania-hard to believe but greate opportunity to build another SharePoint practice from the ground up. Currently working as the Senior SharePoint Solutions Architect and Practice Manager-built a great team here in PA-some great opportunities out here for SharePoint 2010 upgrades, tactical SharePoint solutions to streamline business processes, and of course SharePoint intranet solutions, extranets as well. As always keeping my technical skills in SharePoint and Silverlight sharp, yes, Silverlight-have a blog post coming on why I feel Silverlight is still relevant, or at least the technology behind it.
